The Campsites
After the accumulated experience of 10 editions of the Titan Desert and according to the opinions and commentaries of more than 2.000 titans that have passed through this test, we know that one of the most valuable aspects for the participants is the campsites. The experience to live together with people of different origins and backgrounds in addition to the opportunity to live during a few days in full contact with nature, in very different conditions to what we do in our daily lives.
In this first edition of the Titan Tropic Cuba, all these elements will be specially accentuated by the small group of participants, and especially due to the exceptional natural environment of the location of the campsites. The lush vegetation, the permanent presence of the autochthonous fauna and the singular light of the Cuban island, will make the campsites of this edition, dream scenarios.
The Terrazas-Baños of the River San Juan
The first one of the campsites will be located next to the Baños of the San Juan river, in the Community of Las Terrazas in the heart of the Sierra del Rosario, declared by the UNESCO Natural Biosphere Reserve.
The reserve shows a complex geological structure, with a wide variety of rocks that produce different and special soils, which in part determines the endemism of the flora in the landscape. Among the species of the flora, visitors can find the small orchid Bletia Purpurea, considered a symbol of the region, within the avifauna, the Tocororo and Cartacuba, among amphibians, a small frog Eleuterodactilus limbatus, of only 9 mm and among the reptiles, Anolis Vermiculatus.
The participants can enjoy the complex of natural pools that will certainly be a good stimulus to recover from the efforts of the first stage of the Titan Tropic Cuba.
Soroa
Soroa is located a few kilometers west of Las Terrazas, in the town of Candelaria, in the same mountains and a very similar natural environment being part also of the Biosphere Reserve of the Sierra del Rosario. Soroa is another small paradise-there is more than 800 plant species and 73 birds.
Our campsite will be installed at the bottom of a valley at the foot of the Loma del Fuerte, where the Castillo de las Nubes is located, a formidable watchtower over the area. A few meters from the campsite, a must-visit is the Soroa Orchidarium which houses over 20,000 samples of 130 species of orchids.
Viñales
Viñales Valley is located in the province of Pinar del Rio, which is the westernmost part of Cuba. Specifically located in the Sierra de los Órganos in the mountain range of Guaniguanico.
Viñales National Park and its surroundings is a unique and singular landscape where heights of metamorphic rocks are combined with karst mountains, known locally as "mogotes" and valleys of singular beauty. These natural features, combined with the rich cultural history treasured by the region, made it possible for this to be declared "Humanity’s Cultural Landscape" by UNESCO in 1999.
The region has a high diversity and endemism of its flora and fauna, as well as an extensive cave systems known worldwide and named "Cathedral of the Carso Tropical".
Therefore, this year we will spend two nights in the campsite that we will settle in the Rancho San Vicente. In a corner of extreme beauty and at the foot of the "mogotes", we will enjoy two days in a tropical paradise that all the Titans will remember.
